Filipino players currently playing overseas have expressed their support for William Navarro, who the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas have not cleared to suit up in the Korean Basketball League.

According to SBP, Navarro is still under contract as a full-time Gilas Pilipinas player.

Still, that did not Kai Sotto of Australia NBL took to social media to express his thoughts on the issue.

"Im sorry but this is crazy THIS HAS TO STOP," said the Adelaide 36ers center on Twitter and Instagram story

"You got players who've been working hard and dreaming to play basketball at the highest level they can reach and we got our own people stopping us from achieving greatness."

“At the end of the day, one's success is ‘everyone's.’ So we have to help each other go up! Not down."

Meanwhile Korea-bound players SJ Belangel (Daegu KOGAS), RJ Abarrientos (Ulsan Hyundai Mobis), and Justin Gutang (Changwon LG) expressed their support for fellow 'Samgyupgang' friend on Instagram story by promoting the #FreeWill.

"It’s sad to see someone who’s worked so hard to get where they’re at now have their dreams taken away just like that," Gutang said.

“Is it wrong for Filipino athletes to choose playing abroad?” wondered Gutang, a product of College of Saint Benilde and an MVP in Filbasket. “Are they not allowed to choose a path that will benefit them along the way? I mean Filipino athletes playing overseas are still representing the Philippines. Everyone should spread love and positivity to all athletes in every profession playing abroad. #FreeWill."

“Really? Being an impediment to someone’s dream? You all should support Filipino athletes who are playing abroad. Similar to any other profession, you’ll do what’s best for your career! They are choosing to play and strengthen their ability while representing the country," Abarrientos said.

"Always remember that we are still repping the Filipino Flag no matter where we play," Belangel said.

“We chose to play internationally not because we hate Philippine Basketball but because we are here to pursue every athlete’s dream to reach our fullest potential and even go beyond our dreams. Everyday, we are working hard to make our country proud, never saying that Philippine Basketball is worst place to play in. As what Buzz Lightyear said, ‘Reach for the skies!’ Do not settle with what we have or for what is working. Always aim for more! #NoHate."

Navarro was supposed to play for Seoul Samsung in the upcoming 2022-23 KBL season.
