The Philippines made another strong showing in the regional dive tourism scene after securing more than P113 million in sales leads during the Malaysia International Dive Expo (MIDE) 2026, reinforcing the country's appeal as one of Asia's top underwater destinations.
Held from June 5 to 7 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur, the three-day event brought together diving enthusiasts, industry stakeholders, and tourism exhibitors from across the region. Representing the country was the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines, alongside 10 Philippine dive operators that showcased a wide range of experiences—from beachfront dive resorts and luxury stays to guided liveaboard adventures and exclusive travel packages.
Visitors, primarily from Malaysia, explored the Philippines' 72-square-meter country pavilion, where striking underwater visuals highlighted some of the nation's most celebrated dive sites. Interest remained high for destinations such as Palawan, Negros Oriental, Batangas, Cebu, and Mindoro, while seasoned divers also inquired about specialized experiences like pelagic and wreck diving.
Participating Philippine dive outfits included Aldive Corporation, Buceo Anilao Beach and Dive Resort, Dauin Silver Reef Dive Resort, Garden of Eden Dive Resort, Kasai Village Dive Resort, Lalaguna Villas Luxury Dive Resort & Spa, Logon Fish Buddies Dive Center, M/Y Resolute (Liveaboards), Slam's Garden Dive Resort – Ocean Passion, and Umali Dive Center Corporation.
According to Tourism Promotions Board Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, MIDE continues to serve as a valuable platform for promoting the country's world-class dive destinations while strengthening ties with Malaysian and international dive stakeholders. She added that the Philippines was honored with the expo's Longstanding Appreciation Award, recognizing the country's 13 consecutive years of participation.
Beyond consumer engagement, the TPB also facilitated 142 business-to-business meetings through its market representative in Malaysia, creating opportunities for Philippine dive operators to build stronger partnerships with Malaysian dive agents and generate future business.
Accessibility also remained a key selling point during the expo. Philippine exhibitors highlighted convenient travel options through Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Malaysian carriers AirAsia and Firefly, which operate direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Cebu—one of the country's main gateways to renowned diving destinations.
To further engage visitors, the TPB organized interactive marketing activities at the pavilion, offering promotional items to guests who completed market surveys or booked Philippine dive packages.
