On June 26, 2024, the Dangerous Drug Board leads the annual observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) in collaboration with Quezon City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Attended by 200 Transportation Network Vehicles Services (TNVS), TokTok are one of those who kicked off the day’s activity by participating the motorcade and attended a series of training session on Basic Anti-Drug Education, Road Safety, and Traffic Rules and Regulations at the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) facilitated by DDB.
Among the distinguished guests who graced the event are Sec. Catalino Cuy, Chairperson of DDB, Senate President Francis Joseph “Chiz” Escudero who gave an inspiring video message, QC Vice Mayor Gian Sotto, Rep. Bonifacio Laqui Bosita of 1- Rider Partylist, Dir. Gen. Moro Virgilio Lazo of PDEA, Dir. Francis Ray Almora of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), BGen. Fernando Sevilla of PPSC, and Mr. Daniel Marchesi, Country Manager of United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The annual event is an advocacy to promote collective actions between the transport group and the government advocating healthy, and safe transportation, and securing delivery of services free from the harm of dangerous drugs. It also promotes drug policies grounded in science and research. The event also defies a strong emphasis in respecting human rights. Aside from the insightful seminar, the riders and their respective company representatives were given a chance to ask questions to the presenters from both PDEA and LTO.
Through this, TokTok and the rest of the TNVS who attended the event are now more equipped with knowledge about their rights and safety in relation to drug – related trafficking concerns.
