PBA hands Blankley, Powell hefty fines

Hayden Blankley and Myles Powell of Bay Area Dragons were slapped with hefty fines by PBA for their comments on the officiating following their Game Three loss against the Barangay Ginebra in the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals.

Commissioner Willie Marcial said Blankley was given a P100,000, while Powell was asked to pay P75,000.

Blankley first described the officiating as "cooked" in his now-deleted post on his Instagram story.

"Got nothing but love and respect for the Philippines and its people, but at this point it's obvious, just let it be a fair game, please. As the locals would say — it's cooked," his post read.

Powell then took to Twitter to point out the free throw discrepancy between Bay Area and Ginebra.

"Y'all saying we shot 21 free throws in game 2 & y'all only shot 5 proves exactly my point," he tweeted. "[S]omething ain't right clearly the refs making the difference between who wins or not when it should just be a fair called game."

Ginebra currently owns a 2-1 series lead.

Game Four of the best-of-seven Finals series is on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
