Pinoy rules US chess tilt

Veteran Filipino chess player Sonsea Eda Agonoy, the head of the Novelty Chess Club, displayed his old form by dominating the 32nd North American Open Chess Tournament on December 30,  in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

Agonoy, from Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, amassed 6.5 points through six victories and a tie to win the top prize of US$5,000.

Agonoy, the pride of Novaliches, Quezon City defeated American Darren Wang in the seventh and final round after posting six victories and a draw to capture the coveted title in the Under 1500 division.

Hengrui Zhang, Odbayar Yondon, and Wang tied for second place with six points each, earning each US$1,600 for their efforts.

The 2022 Rooty Hill Blitz Chess Championship was won by Arena Grandmaster Angelito "Anji" Camer on Tuesday in Sydney, Australia.

Cameroon won the 11-round competition with 10.5 points from 10 victories and one draw. 

The Las Piñas City-born Camer, who now resides in Sydney, Australia, expressed his joy at participating in such a fantastic event.
