NDRRMC: Paeng death toll hits 110; 2.4 million affected

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Tuesday said it tallied 110 people reported as dead due to Tropical Storm Paeng that hammered the Philippines last weekend.

In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said 79 of these reported deaths had been confirmed, while 31 are still up for validation. It also noted that 101 persons are reported as injured while authorities are looking for 33 missing individuals.

The number of affected population also rose to 2,418,249 persons or 741,777 families in 17 regions across the country.

Of these, 52,742 families or 190,525 persons remain in 2,728 evacuation centers. There are also some 276,557 families or 675,456 persons being serviced outside these facilities.

The number of damaged of house also went up to 6,542, with an estimated value of P12.415 million. Of these, 5,035 are categorized as partially damaged while 1,507 houses were totally destroyed by the storm.

Paeng also wrought damage to agriculture at an estimated value of P1.298 billion, with 53,575 farmers and fisherfolk in seven affected regions. Meanwhile, damage to infrastructure is pegged at P760,361,175, with 55 structures logged as damaged.

The disaster preparedness agency said the government has so far provided more than P50 million assistance to affected regions, in the form of food packs, tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping kits and others.

Paeng left the Philippine Area of Responsibility past noon of Monday.
