TNT manager Jojo Lastimosa speaks up on Mikey Williams suspension: 'He is the problem'

TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa disclosed the reason behind Mikey Williams' one-week suspension without pay.

The PBA legend, along with the TNT management, decided to punish the Fil-American guard after missing multiple practices and team activities without giving the team any prior notice.

"We decided to suspend him because it’s a multiple infraction already – ‘yung mga absences niya without any reason, without any information on what’s going on,” Lastimosa said after their 91-88 loss against the Phoenix Super LPG at the Ynares Center.

“Kasi sa amin, we don’t fine players e. We don’t fine players. Pero ‘pag excessive na talaga, then you have to be responsible for your actions.”

It all started when Williams missed TNT's training camp in Batangas prior to the start of their conference, which was fine with the team since he was rehabilitating his injured ankle.

However, the 31-year old continuous absences without valid excuses prompted the team to suspend him.

"That’s not fair. That’s not fair for everyone because bumalik sila e,” said Lastimosa.

“‘Yung action lang na ganun, parang he’s acting like he’s on another level, he’s better than the rest of the players, which shouldn’t be the case.”

What irked Lastimosa is that Williams did not even bother apologizing to the team, especially to his teammates, for skipping practices.

"The thing with him is he won’t apologize to his teammates na, ‘Hey guys, I missed practice, I missed the camp because I had to attend’ … He just doesn’t care. That’s how we feel. He just doesn’t care,” he said.

“He’s getting paid a lot of money. And he’s not being a good teammate. That’s your first responsibility: You have to be a good teammate. Para sa’kin. For me, that’s sacred. Practices are sacred journey.”

Lastimosa also said there is no plan for the TNT bosses to discuss the matters with Williams.

"He is the one who has a problem. Not me. Or not the team. He is just one of the total parts of the team. There’s no sacred cow in our team," he ended.
