NDRRMC: Affected persons due to Neneng rise to 181K

Typhoon Neneng, which exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility last Sunday, has left more than 180,000 persons affected in the Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

According to its Thursday situation report, the number of affected population in the three regions has reached 181,185 or 51,870 families.

“Of which, 163 families or 578 persons were served inside 12 [evacuation centers] and 308 families or 1,111 persons were served outside ECs,” the report read.

So far, the Council has yet to log any fatalities or missing persons, but two individuals from the Ilocos Region have been reported as injured.

Typhoon Neneng, which dumped rains in Northern Luzon, also partially damaged 220 houses and totally destroyed 59 houses.

The typhoon also affected 14,578 farmers or fisherfolk and wrought damage on agriculture at an estimated cost of P366,058,240.16. Infrastructure damage, meanwhile, is pegged at P81.555 million.

The government has provided P17.312 million worth of assistance in the form of family food pack, hygiene kit, sleeping kit, relief assistance and assistance to individuals in crisis situation in the three affected regions.

State meteorologists are currently monitoring Tropical Depression Obet which enter PAR just days after Neneng exited the Philippines’ jurisdiction.
