The Outstanding Women in the Nation's Service (TOWNS) organization recognized Rubilen Amit, a veteran of Filipina billiards, as one of the year's awards on Thursday, September 29.
Amit, a former world pool champion, was featured among 10 other women in different professions, including investigative journalism senior writer Pia Ranada of Rappler.
“I am truly honored to be receiving this prestigious award. I am humbled to be included among these strong and amazing women! Congratulations to my fellow awardees,” Amit said in a Facebook post.
The 40-year-old pool player, along with Johann Chua and Carlo Biado, competed for the Philippines in the 2022 Predator World 10-ball Team Championship, which they won on September 12.
The organization stated in a release that "Rubilen Amit has performed with great expertise and etiquette on a global scale."
"Anyone familiar with the world of cue sports knows how Rubilen Amit has consistently been voted as the most respected and appreciated competitor in world competitions, aside from winning world championships in billiards."
In 2009 and 2013, Amit won the Women's World Ten-Ball Championship of the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA). She is the first Filipina to win the world championship.
Amit, a 10-time Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold medallist, also won five silver medals in the regional competition from 2005 to 2021.
She also won silver and bronze medals at the Asian Indoor Games.
