The long-awaited maiden issue of Vogue Philippines is here!
Over Instagram, the publication debuted its first cover story featuring Filipino-American model Chloe Magno.
“The Philippines is fashion’s new frontier,” Vogue PH wrote.
It added, “For our maiden issue, Vogue Philippines takes you on a voyage through the three main islands of the Philippine archipelago—Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. We invited @sharifhamza, a British Filipino-Egyptian photographer, and @chlomagno, a half-Filipino, half-American model to celebrate our roots as islanders, and explore how we are connected, not separated by water.”
Magno wore an abaca silk dress by Filipino fashion designer Rajo Laurel together with small flame studs by New York City-based jewelry brand Crishabana. She was styled by fashion stylist and Vogue Philippines fashion director Pam Quiñones.
Her natural, laid-back makeup look was done by artist Robbie Pinera and matched with the hairstyling work of Raymond Santiago.
Magno expressed her gratitude on her page, emphasizing that the cover story is a “product of love.”
“I have been fortunate enough to work in this industry for a decade. In that time I have never experienced a group of people who are more dedicated, hard working, and joyous as the crew involved with this story. I gave my everything to this shoot and I know the same is true for everyone who worked on this monumental project,” she captioned.
Editor-in-chief Bea Valdes, on the other hand, shared, “Our hope was guided by the Filipino values of Malasakit (deep empathy), Bayanihan (community), and optimism that defines so much of our culture…Instead, this bounty was showered on us, openly and generously, by so many of our fellow countrymen.”
The production of Vogue Philippines makes it the 29th edition of the magazine worldwide. Its first issue is available on newsstands, online, and e-shopping platforms starting Wednesday, August 31.
