Over 600 women-inmates in the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City are now fully equipped with the skills they needed to earn a livelihood once they complete their sentence after recently finishing a training program with the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA).
604 PDL-Graduates Acquired New Skills
The inmates completed their skills training during the 12th Commencement Exercises with the theme "Braving Boundaries with Resilience Skills" held at the CIW compound in Mandaluyong City.
BuCor spokesman Gabriel Chaclag said the industrial training program made under the auspices of the Correctional Institution for Women's Vocation Technical School and TESDA are meant to give offenders the skills they need for future employment once they regain their freedom.
Among the skills the 604 gained are in beauty care, card making, crochet, dressmaking, guitar lessons, Japanese language, jewelry making, and weaving.
Chaclag said TESDA Director Leonardo Pinlac confirmed the graduates who were presented by CIW C/Insp.Marlyn Sulpot.
Meanwhile, 22 inmates in the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Zamboanga City gained their freedom after completing their prison sentence and grant of parole recently.
SPPF C/Supt.Jhaeron Lacaben said of the 22 inmates, 14 gained their freedom after the Pardon and Parole Administration granted their request.
