Rizal is recognized for its unique, independent coffee shops—excellent for social functions, business meetings, and solo study sessions. But with plenty of options available, it might be challenging to decide which new café to try next. Some of the coffee shops do, however, stand out from the crowd, just like this coffee shop in Antipolo City, which recently went viral online for its charitable efforts.
The Weekend Kofi, which is located at Brgy. San Roque in Antipolo City, allows coffee drinkers to donate to a foundation with every purchase of their handcrafted beverages.
Their chosen foundation? Former Vice President Leni Robredo’s Angat Buhay Non-Governmental Organization.
With its special Angat Buhay cup, an additional P10 is added to the customer's bill, and another P10 will come from the café. Hence, every P20 for every cup of coffee proceeds will go directly to the NGO.
When asked why they chose the mentioned NGO, the café told Global Daily Mirror that this is because they chose "to support the Leni-Kiko tandem during the campaign period."
The Weekend Kofi continued, “The Angat Buhay NGO initiated by Atty. Leni Robredo captivated our hearts and continued what the pink movement started—we're in owe to support the Filipino people. TWK still believes in ‘Sa Gobyernong Tapat, Angat Buhay Lahat!’”
Launched in May of 2021, The Weekend Kofi was "just a pop-up cafe along the highway" and opened only on the weekends hence its business name.
"When we offer our products online, we receive a lot of orders even on weekdays. Our regular customers would message and order with us so from there we started offering our coffees every day."
It clarified that they didn't change the business's name even though they started operating on weekdays "because we want (it) to remind us how we started."
The café offers coffee, non-coffee drinks, frappes, pasta, waffles, egg drop waffles, all-day breakfast, and other snacks ranging from P99-P179.
"We put our hearts out and (make an effort) for every cup of coffee and every food we serve to our customers. That's why I think they kept coming back because aside from the product itself the customer service we gave is always the best."
A must-try from its menu is the Barista Drink #3. It is an oreo sub breve milk drizzled with caramel sauce upside-down frappuccino.
