The Caloocan city government will give away five kilos of rice each to solo parents in the city as part of their financial assistance, Mayor Along Malapitan said on Sunday.
In the statement, Malapitan also promised to give solo parents free training to help them look for jobs, especially amid a pandemic.
“Sa panahon ngayon, mahirap maghanap ng trabaho, lalo na kung kayo lang ang maaaring mag-alaga ng inyong mga anak (At this time, it is difficult to look for jobs, especially for you who has to take care of your children),” Malapitan said.
“Kaya naman, magiging tuloy-tuloy ang ating libreng trainings at mga programang pangkabuhayan para mabigyan kayo ng oportunidad para kumita o magka-trabaho (This is why, we will continue our free trainings and livelihood programs to give you opportunities to earn and make a living),” he added.
The mayor tasked the City Social Welfare Development Department to lead the distribution of rice to parents.
For his part, social welfare department action officer Roberto Quizon promised to implement the recently passed “Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act.”
The said the law, which gives more benefits to solo parents, also allows solo parents automatic coverage in the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) and the government’s poverty alleviation programs.
Quizon vowed to help solo parents among the vulnerable sectors in Caloocan.
