The Department of Public Works and Highways DPWH had completed restoring and renovating the 105-year-old Capitol Building in Sorsogon City.
In an advisory, DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado and Regional Office 5 Director Virgilio C. Eduarte said that the renovated Sorsogon Provincial Capitol is a one-stop building that houses all department offices in the province.
With a ?99-million allocation, the Capitol was restored to its original neo-classic design.
“The Provincial Capitol is open 24 hours so that people can visit and walk through the hallways to witness and appreciate the architectural works and paintings done by local and regional artists,” said Director Eduarte.
Works that were done include waterproofing on the roof deck and other affected areas and recently added cabinets.
An elevator has also been restored, making the building persons with disabilities or PWD-friendly.
Locals and visitors patronize the newly-restored building for its state-of-the-art facilities. It is also now gaining popularity as it is considered a landmark of Sorsogon City.
DPWH – Sorsogon 1st District Engineering Office said they completed the restoration project early this year in coordination with the local government.
