Robredo calls for more vaccines, tests ahead of NCR’s return to ECQ

Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday gave recommendations to the government, including vaccinating 750,000 people daily, to ensure that the two-week lockdown in Metro Manila will be the “last ever.”

The capital region, home to 13 million people, will revert to enhanced community quarantine from August 6 to 20 to curb the spread of the Delta variant and shield the country’s health system.

The vice president stressed that the government should administer 750,000 COVID-19 jabs daily to achieve herd immunity more quickly.

She also said that the average daily COVID-19 tests should increase from the current 50,000 to 120,000 to determine virus hotspots and that the database for contact tracing should be unified.

The government must also be “hospital-ready” by assisting hospitals in hiring more medical personnel and ensure there are sufficient supplies of medicines and oxygen tanks.

Lastly, authorities must ensure that aid will reach affected families and small businesses, Robredo said.
