At the Cordillera Career Development College gymnasium in La Trinidad, Benguet, over the weekend, reigning World Boxing Association Asia super bantamweight champion Carl James Martin knocked out Thailand's Komgrich Nantapech in the second of their scheduled 10-round title fight.
The wonder boy of the Cordilleras, Martin, defeated Nantapech to claim the IBF Pan Pacific super bantamweight title after two minutes and 22 seconds of the crucial round.
Martin's spotless record now stands at 21 victories and 17 knockouts.
Nantapech lost for the seventh time despite having 31 victories.
Martin's fight served as a test as he prepared for a shot at the world championship.
Probellum, the organization representing top boxers, including former world champion Nonito Donaire Jr., has signed Martin.
According to boxing promoter Darwin Dep-ay of Pinoy Boxing Prodigy, the fight was the biggest boxing event in the Cordillera since the 1970s.
According to Dep-ay, more boxing events will be staged in Benguet and the Cordillera Region.
