NU gets 2022 UAAP poomsae title

On Tuesday at the Blue Eagle Gym, National University used its strong showing in the men's team competition to unseat the University of Santo Tomas. This team had previously held the UAAP taekwondo poomsae championship.

Ceanne Rosquillo, James Lopez, and Jed Tan's victory in the men's team event with 8.265 points served as the decisive factor in the title.

Laeia Soria, the season's most valuable player, won NU's other gold medal by dominating the women's individual category with 8.250 points.

Aidaine Laxa of UST surpassed her with 8.135 points, and Mikee Regala of De La Salle University came in third with 7.880 points.

The Bulldogs won 2-2-0 in medals (gold, silver, and bronze), while the Tiger Jins won 2-1-1.

To keep the title, UST needed the University of the Philippines to triumph in the men's competition, but the trio of Dominic Navarro, Joshua Cachero, and Datu Rayhan placed in second place with 8.235.

With 8.165 points, UST's Vincent Rodrigues, Kobe Macario, and Darius Venerable took third place.

UST won the mixed pair and women's team competitions.

Patrick Perez and Regala from De La Salle University were defeated by Rodriguez and Chelsea Tacay in the finals, scoring 8.230 to 8.215. 

With a combined score of 7.895, Joaquin Tuzon and Elaine Borres won bronze for the Blue Eagles.

After finishing with an 8.35 score, Laxa, Jade Carno, and Stella Yape successfully defended their women's team event.

Denise Alicias, Abegail Pacificador, and Soria of NU won the silver medal with a score of 8.215 while Sofia Sarmiento, Zyka Santiago, and Daphne Ching of La Salle won the bronze medal with a score of 8.005.

With a medal total of 1-0-1, the Blue Eagles won their first-ever poomsae podium position.

Joaquin Tuzon of the Ateneo won the other gold medal of the day by dominating the men's solo event with a time of 8.195, defeating favorites Rosquillo (8.170) and Perez (8.115).
