Village exec killed, another hurt in Zamboanga Sibugay gun attack

In the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, a village official was killed, and a spectator was injured in a shooting on November 13, according to the police.

Aldot Bantingan, 48, the barangay chairperson of Bulacan's Payao town, was identified as the slain official by Police Colonel Eduard Mallo, the police director of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Aimee Columbres, a senior high school student, was recognized as the injured bystander. She is 18 years old.

According to Mallo, the event occurred at 11 p.m. Friday in Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay province, Purok 3, Poblacion village.

Bantingan was riding his motorcycle home after attending a celebration of the "Araw ng Payao," according to Mallo, when he was shot many times by an unidentified person on a motorcycle in pursuit and wearing a hooded jacket.

Bantingan passed away instantly, according to Mallo, while Columbres was taken to the hospital after being struck by a stray gunshot.

He claimed that after the suspect fled at high speed, the scene yielded a deformed.45 caliber slug and an empty shell from a revolver.

He stated that further investigation is being done to identify the incident's perpetrator.
