Alex Eala took down Vitalia Diatchenko to punch a ticket into the W80 Poitiers quarterfinals in France, Thursday Philippine time.
The Filipina teen sensation hammered out a 6-4, 6-3 win over the 32-year-old Russian veteran to stay on track for a third pro title.
Eala held first serve for a 4-2 lead in the opening frame before figuring in a 4-4 deadlock.
The US Open juniors singles champ then turned to her experience to prevail in the first set.
Using that same steely nerve, Eala went on a tear in the next round on the way to securing the victory over easily her most grizzled foe thus far in the pro level.
Diatchenko was the No. 8 seed and currently the WTA World No. 108.
Up next for Eala is Ana Konjuh of Croatia, whom she faces today at 5:30 p.m. in Philippine time.
Eala won her first ITF pro title during the W15 Manacor in 2021. She annexed a second crown in the W25 Chiang Rai last April.
