Norwegian traveler caught with P56M shabu at NAIA

A 59-year-old woman from Norway was arrested for allegedly trying to slip in illegal drugs worth PHP56 million at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG)  said on Friday. 

PDEG chief Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo identified the suspect as Rose Alex Moi, 59 and a resident of Hovik, Norway was arrested during the interdiction operations(Controlled Delivery) by the operatives of  PDEG-Intelligence and Foreign Liaison Division together with NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group at NAIA Terminal 3, Pasay City around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Based on its initial report, Domingo said the suspect Moi, yielded around 8,340 grams of a white powdery substance suspected to be shabu worth PHP56.7 million in an interdiction operation.

The information from NAIA-IADITG said that the arrested person came from Dubai and she is traveling to Manila.

After screening and conducting an inspection, the shabu was found in her luggage. 

Also seized from the suspect was one light brown luggage containing assorted clothes and five pieces of improvised pouches made of packaging tape attached with gray duct tape, each containing a white powdering substance.

The seized pieces of evidence are submitted to the Laboratory Service for qualitative and quantitative examination.

The suspect will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as "The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002".

Domingo commended the relentless efforts of the drug operatives to continuously intensify our campaign against illegal drugs to ensure the maintenance of peace and order in the entire country and to reach our ultimate goal of a drug-free society.
