Sonny Boy Aporbo of the City of Mati in Davao Oriental won the recently concluded Algarve International Skimboarding competition held in Portugal on October 22-23, 2022.

Aporbo was among the 68 competitors from different countries, including Malaysia, Hong Kong, Spain, Portugal, the United States, and the Netherlands.

Aporbo, the lone representative from the Philippines, topped the said competition.

Aporbo garnered the highest score of 1.11, followed by Portugal with 1.9, Spain with 2.10, and the United States with 2.12, respectively.

"I was speechless during the competition since I was the only Filipino there and, of course, I was under pressure to represent the Philippines. I appreciated meeting individuals from other regions and with various origins," Aporbo said in vernacular.

But apart from the triumph, the 28-year-old Matinian articulated that he will not forget his sacrifices to get to where he is now.

"I went through rigorous preparations and practices before the competition. Every day, I began training at six (6) a.m. and continued until six (6) p.m.," he added.

Currently, Aporbo is enjoying and celebrating his victory together with his girlfriend, Cythia Hendrikse, and will return to the Philippines on November 24, 2022.
