Ex-Olympian retains Asian boxing title

On October 23, 2022, at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City, Metro Manila, Philippine Army boxer Private Charly Suarez defeated fellow countryman Carlo Magali by unanimous decision to win the main event of "Ultimate Knockout Challenge: Battlefield."

Suarez also won the new Philippine Super Featherweight belt.

With the victory, Private Suarez's record improved to 13-0 with seven knockouts.

Private Suarez successfully defended his WBA Asia Super Featherweight title for the second time after winning it in March of 2022.

Before joining the Army's regular duty in July 2022, Private Suarez was a reserve Staff Sergeant, as may be remembered.

Private Suarez was named WBA Asia's Boxer of the Month for March 2022. Suarez competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil and won gold medals in various boxing events at the Southeast Asian Games in 2009, 2011, 2019, and 2022.

His coach is Army reservist 1st Lt. Delfin Boholst.
