Caloy Yulo will showcase new facets of his game when he plunges into action in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, England.

The showpiece gets going from Oct. 29 and will run until Nov. 6, with Yulo looking to claim a second gold medal in the vault by turning to Ri Se Gwang, a front handspring double-piked salto with a half twist named after a North Korean ace who dominated the meet years ago.

“We applied upgrades in rings and floor exercise (routines). In the vault, we’re trying out a new element,” he said in a video conference on Monday night.

Yulo said he has found relative success executing the stunt thrice during training.

“About 70 to 75 percent, I can pull off the new elements,” he said.

Yulo said innovation will play a big role in his build-up for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where the qualifications begin next year.

The young Filipino wants to deliver a better haul from his Kitakyushu, Japan, last year. There he tabbed a gold in the vault and silver in parallel bars.

But he also knows that he has his work cut out for him.

“I have rivals who are greater than me. And there are for sure a lot better who are joining this time. At the end o it all, it will boil down to my mindset on that very day.e,” Yulo said.
