Some male inmates of General Santos City Jail have made the Philippines proud after they made it to the finals of the ongoing 2nd Intercontentinental Online Chess Championship for Prisoners 2022.
The prisoners who love to play chess got the chance to compete for the coveted championship of the international chess tournament after they topped the semifinal round made up of 16 teams.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Gensan scored 20.5 points in the semis to get the top spot behind chess powerhouse India who only managed to score 19.5 points.
The team got the slot to compete in the semifinals after they placed second among the 16 team semifinalists in the elimination round.
The team scored 19.5 points in the elimination round behind top placer UAE who scored 24 points.
The championship round of the tournament participated in by 85 teams around the world is se to be competed this weekend.
The prisoners who are serving sentences for are very determined to win the tournament show the world that being behind bars is not a reason for anyone not to bring honor to his or her country.
