Fajardo out for at least seven weeks

San Miguel Beer cornerstone June Mar Fajardo will be missing a significant chunk of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup following a throat procedure.

The Beermen center is expected to be shelved for around seven weeks as he recovers from a surgery to address a laryngeal fracture he sustained during a collision with Rain or Shine import Steve Taylor, Jr.

Team manager Gee Abanilla said that Fajardo underwent successful surgery and will be continued to be monitored on a day-to-day basis.

“We’re hoping that he heals properly and faster,” he said.

“He cannot talk yet. Actually, he cannot eat yet,” he went on. “It hurts when he swallows.”

Fajardo is coming off a resurgent Philippine Cup, where he powered vaunted San Miguel back to the centerpiece tournament it once ruled for five straight editions.

He is currently averaging 22 points, 12 rebounds, four assists spiked with 1.5 blocks and steals in the import-laden conference.

San Miguel, 1-1,  thus misses its foremost weapon when it takes on fancied guest club Bay Area on Sunday.
