Godfrey Okumu has tendered his resignation as head coach of the University of the Philippines’ Women’s Volleyball Team. The Kenyan mentor announced his decision through his Facebook post.

"I would like to make some clarifications on my position with UPWVT," his post read.

"I have since stepped down as the Head Coach of the team."

Okumu assumed the role back in September of 2017. Okumu steered the Fighting Maroons to PVL Collegiate Conference and PSL Collegiate Grand Slam titles in 2018, cementing themselves as one of the contenders in UAAP Season 81.

However, the Diliman-based squad only finished fifth with a 6-8 record. UP only managed to finish sixth last season.

"I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the support that I received from the team for the last 4 years, the office of the Chancellor, the VAAS office, and the UP sports fraternity as a whole," Okumu continued.

"I wish UPWVT all the best as the team starts its new Journey."
