Davaoena Sambo Practioner Sydney Sy Tancontian got a silver medal in the Kurash competition in the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Tancontian got the silver in the women’s +87kg on May 11.

She got the chance to compete in this year’s SEA games after earning a bronze medal in the 2019 SEA games held in the Philippines in the same category.

The Philippines (1-2-5) ranked third behind Vietnam (7-1-2) and Thailand (2-2-4) in the Kurash medal tally during the 2019 SEA Games.

Tancontian hopes to compete in more international Sambo competitions to gain more experience and confidence.

"I think ang pagsali ko sa more Sambo competitions will help me gain more self confidence," Tancontian said.

Tancontian, 21, won the bronze medal in the 2020 World Sambo Championship in Novi Sad, Serbia, last November 8, 2020.

The Davaoena won the bronze medal earlier in the 80-kilogram Women’s senior category after beating Spain’s Evadne Huecas 2-1.

She said her bronze medal is due to her hard work and experience.
