The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to present the Basic Education Report (BER) 2023 on January 30 to present the current challenges and priorities of the agency.

DepEd Spokesperson Atty. Michael Wesley Poa announced that Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte will deliver the BER 2023.

“Gusto natin ilahad sa general public kung ano talaga ‘yong current state of education kasi po lagi natin naririnig na ang daming challenges ng basic education. So, dito po natin iisa-isahin sa publiko kung ano ‘yong mga specific challenges ng basic education (We want to present to the public what the current state of education really is because we always hear about the many challenges of basic education. So, here we will list what are the specific challenges of basic education),” Poa said.

“Aside from that, syempre pagkalatag natin ng challenges, ang Department po natin ay maglulunsad ng Education Agenda. Tinutukoy nito ang mga plans and initiatives natin upang maresolba ‘ang mga challenges na ito (Aside from that, of course, we will establish challenges, and our Department will launch an Education Agenda. It determines our plans and initiatives to resolve these challenges),” he added.

Further, DepEd will also launch a new call to action for all Filipinos anchored on BER 2023.

“It’s really to give the public an idea of the steps that this administration will take and also the direction of this administration towards resolving issues in basic education,” the spokesperson ended.

According to DepEd, “the BER 2023 aims to present the state of basic education in the country, and the plans and initiatives of the Department to fulfill its mandate.”

The Department of Education will also release updates on the ongoing review of the K-12 curriculum on January 30.
