Controversial player John Amores has signed with Zamboanga Valientes ahead of their campaign in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) Invitational next year.

The signing came a month after Amores' punching incident in a game against College of Saint Benilde.

Valiente's general manager Nino Rejhi Natividad confirmed the development on Thursday, saying that the team "believes in second chances."

"He is a good player who made a mistake in which he truly regrets," the team said in a statement on Thursday.

"One mistake does not define who you are."

Amores averaged 9.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 13 games this past NCAA Season 98 before being suspended indefinitely by the league and dropped by JRU's sports program.

The 23-year-old has since apologized for his actions but still faces complaints of physical injury filed by Blazers Jimboy Pasturan and Taine Davis.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga is set to play in the ABL Invitational in January.

"Tingin namin makakatulong siya sa team lalo na sa defense at outside shooting niya. Aabangan natin ang pagangat ni Amores sa Valientes," the team said.
