Converge ICT Solutions Inc., a provider of FIBER broadband networks, has joined forces with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and airport operators to expand free public wifi services in the terminals of nine domestic and international airports around the nation.
Converge and the DOTr, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, Manila International Airport Authority, and Davao International Airport Authority signed a memorandum of agreement on Thursday, November 17, 2022, for the provision of accessible, quick, and dependable internet services in the departure and arrival areas of selected airports throughout the nation.
“Our airports are gateways to and from our country, and they play a vital role in leaving a positive impression on the Philippines for tourists and locals alike. As an ICT company, we recognize our role in providing the connectivity and the right technology to ensure that people have a great experience in these facilities,” said Converge chief executive officer and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy.
Converge has 90 days from the date of the MOA's signing to present a roll-out strategy, and it anticipates launching its first free public wifi service by the first quarter of 2019.
The fiber internet provider has gathered its technical partners to offer this free wifi service to travelers at airports.
All terminals at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Francisco Bangoy International Airport, and Mactan-Cebu International Airport will have free public connectivity in the arrival and departure zones.
The project also includes coverage for several CAAP-operated airports, including Bacolod-Silay Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Laoag International Airport, Pagadian Airport, Tacloban Airport, and Zamboanga International Airport.
Through the collaboration, Converge will give each registered user free access to 120 minutes daily of quick, dependable, and secure internet services.
Each passenger terminal building at the airports above will have arrival and departure zones with a minimum bandwidth speed of 1Gbps and an 80 percent service dependability.
