Gilas scores huge road win vs JordanĀ

Gilas Pilipinas broke away in the second half and cruised past Jordan, 74-66, in the fifth window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers on Thursday night (Friday morning, Manila time), at the Prince Hamzah Hall in Amman, Jordan.

Team Pilipinas was down 37-41 in halftime when Kai Sotto opened the third period with a triple, followed by free throws from Roger Pogoy and Bobby Ray Parks Jr., and a three-point play by Japeth Aguilar to take a 46-43 lead.

Gilas began to blow past Jordan by as much as eight, 53-45, courtesy of Ange Kouame basket.

The lead grew by as much as 13 points after a Poy Erram tip-in with 4:18 to play.

With the win, Gilas now holds a 4-3 record in Group E, which is a much-needed boost when they face Saudi Arabia in another road game on Monday (Manila time).

The Adelaide 36ers center led Gilas with 16 points built on two triples, with seven rebounds and two blocks.

Parks and Perez chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively, while reigning PBA MVP Scottie Thompson flirted with a triple-double by registering 13 rebounds, eight points, and eight assists.

Dar Tucker scored game-high 23 points but only drilled two three-pointers, while Ahmad Al Dwairi had a double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds as Jordan fell to a 3-4 win-loss slate.
