Although Henry Cavill recently confirmed his reprisal of Superman's role in future DC films—which brought fans to cloud nine—the actor also announced that he won’t be playing Geralt in season four of "The Witcher."

Netflix officially announced that the highly-anticipated series would be back for a fourth season but disclosed that Cavill would not be returning as the monster slayer Geralt of Rivia. Instead, Liam Hemsworth will play a character that requires "big boots to fill," according to Hemsworth himself.

In a Twitter post, the streaming platform confirmed Hemsworth’s involvement in the fourth season. “Henry Cavill will be handing his swords to Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia after Season 3. Welcome to the Witcher family.”

Since its release in 2019, the live-action adaptation of the books of the same name has quickly become popular, with Henry Cavill receiving much praise for his portrayal of Geralt.

Further, the actor on Instagram shared some news from “The Continent.”

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” said the actor, adding that he’s now passing the torch to Liam. “Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

On the other hand, Hemsworth—a Witcher fan himself—said that he’s “over the moon” for having the opportunity to play the white-haired witcher, praising Cavill for being an incredible Geralt of Rivia. “I’m honoured that  he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blade for the next chapter of this adventure.”

“I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world,” said Hemsworth.
