President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will not visit the White House while he is in the United States. Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles disclosed this on  Sept. 20, the second day of the Philippine delegation led by Marcos in the US.

“Hindi po (No, he won’t),” Angeles said when asked during a Facebook live if the President would visit the White House.

Marcos is currently in New York to participate in the high-level discussions at the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This, Angeles said, is the President’s main agenda in the US.

A meeting with US President Joseph Biden is also uncertain, although the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has been working it out.

“Bukas po ang kanyang talumpati sa (Tomorrow he will speak at the) General Assembly high-level debates. Isa pa uli itong pagkakataon na maghikayat ang Pangulo, ipresinta ang Pilipinas (This is another opportunity for the President to present the Philippines) in where we are now in moving towards the post-pandemic economy,” Angeles said.

Marcos will be the second speaker of the afternoon session at 3:15 p.m. (New York time), following Honduras. He will be the first Philippine president to address the UNGA since 2010 when late former president Benigno Aquino III.
