After a six-year stint in the PBA, Matthew Wright is ready to take his career to the next level in Japan B.League.

This is exactly what the Fil-Canadian needs now since he wants to get out of his comfort zone and start fresh.

"I think it's going to be a great challenge because I feel like I was getting a little too comfortable in the Philippines being there for six years," said Wright, who last played for Phoenix Super LPG.

"We didn't win a lot of games in Phoenix and it was very frustrating and I felt like I needed a change in scenery and just new challenges for myself."

Wright was drafted by the Fuel Masters in the Gilas round and led the franchise to two semifinal appearances.

However, the team's constant retooling of the roster made it hard for them to keep the momentum.

This is why Wright is now given a chance to show what he is capable of with Kyoto Hannaryz.

"I'm always constantly trying to become a better basketball player. I think that the main goal is to always strive for improvement and developing your game, and I felt like joining Kyoto would be the best fit for me."

The 31-year-old Wright is joining a team that finished 14-43 in the 2021-22 B.League season.
