Sotto fumes over Navarro's botched Korea gig

Kai Sotto sounded off through social media Sunday over the barring of his Gilas Pilipinas teammate Will Navarro to play in Korea.

Posting on his social media accounts, Sotto, who now plays in Australia with the Adelaide 36ers, framed the development as “crazy.”

“This has to stop,” he said. “You got players who’ve been working hard and dreaming to play basketball at the highest level they can reach and we got our own people stopping us from achieving greatness.”

“At the end of the day, one’s success is ‘everyone’s.’ So we have to help each other go up! Not down.”

Fiba, the international governing body for basketball, said it is upholding Navarro’s contract with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and the national cage program, which obligates the 6-foot-5 forward to play for Gilas and his PBA club only.

Navarro signed a deal to turn pro with the Seoul Samsung Thunders back in July.

Navarro was selected by the NorthPort Batang Pier in a special selection during the PBA’s 2021 Rookie Draft.

He has played a total of 15 games for Gilas.

Sotto and Navarro were teammates for the Philippine squad that saw action in various international campaigns, including the Asia Cup Qualifiers in Pampanga, where the Nationals stunned old regional tormentor South Korea twice.
