MMDA project: From tarpaulins to bags

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to donate election-related materials cleared by the agency to the Eco-Waste Coalition to be converted into bags or other useful items.

Three days after the May 9 polls, the MMDA collected 296 tons of election-related materials in the metropolis through the agency's "Oplan Baklas."

Currently, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said they coordinated with the Eco-Waste Coalition to use other campaign materials.

"Maaaring gawing eco -bags ang mga tarpaulins [These tarpaulins can be made into eco-bags]," Artes said.

Artes added that the agency would also convert some of the campaign materials into eco-bricks after the MMDA's Metro Parkway Clearing Group (MPCG) personnel brought them to Vitas pumping station, where the Solid Waste Granulator and Brick-Making Facility of the agency are located.

At the moment, Francis Martinez, head of the MPCG, said that they are busy cleaning up posters and using scrapers and sprayers to scratch election materials pasted on concrete walls and fences in major thoroughfares.

The local government units are also helping the MMDA, he added.
