Magnolia's Calvin Abueva and Ian Sangalang found themselves fighting for the PBA Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference award.
Abueva may have retained the top spot in the BPC standings at the end of the semifinals with a total of 34.2 statistical points (SPs), but his former college/current PBA teammate catapulted to No. 3 with 33.0 SPs after a stellar performance in the playoffs.
Nonetheless, the Abueva-Sangalang reunion paid off for Magnolia as the franchise made their return trip to the Finals after beating Meralco in the semifinals.
On the other hand, NorthPort ace Robert Bolick ranks second with 33.7 SPs after leading the team to the quarterfinals.
However, Bolick's chance of claiming the top award was affected by NorthPort's failure to make a deep run in the playoffs after being axed by the San Miguel Beermen.
Meanwhile, rookie Mikey Williams slid to the fourth spot with 32.0 SPs after struggling in TnT's semifinals series vs San Miguel.
