The local government of Quezon City on Wednesday said it will limit the number of goods a person may purchase per day during the enhanced community quarantine period to prevent panic buying.

In a statement, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said: “We have to impose limits to avoid panic buying and hoarding that may lead to supply problems and could prevent other citizens from purchasing the needs of their families during the ECQ.”

The local government approved Ordinance No. SP-2948 sets a limit on the number of items a person may buy per day. Under the guidelines, a person may buy up to five cans of sardines per brand and a maximum of ten cans per brand of other canned goods like meatloaf and corned beef.

The ordinance also put a limit on buying powdered milk, coffee, instant noodles, bread, eggs, oil, alcohol, hand sanitizers, soap, face masks, and vitamins.

Belmonte however gave assurances that the city has enough food supply and delivery of goods will remain unhampered during the ECQ.

The ordinance also contains the enforcement of an 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. curfew. It takes effect on midnight of August 6.

In the same statement, Belmonte also said they will bring back the use of quarantine passes “issued by the barangay to no more than one person per household, preferably to a person who is fully-vaccinated and otherwise does not have a company ID or other [authorized persons outside of residence] ID.”

The QC mayor also said its latest guidelines bans home quarantine for confirmed COVID-19 cases and symptomatic close-contacts. Patients must be transferred to hospitals within the locality, HOPE community caring and barangay isolation facilities, and government-accredited isolation hotels.
