Ombudsman evaluating ten corruption complaints from DOJ-led task force

Since its creation in October last year, the Department of Justice-led Task Force against Corruption has endorsed ten complaints to the Office of the Ombudsman for investigation.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Ombudsman “has acted upon and is currently evaluating the numerous complaints endorsed/filed by the TFAC.”

He said the graft buster’s office is looking into corruption allegations against a town mayor in Lanao del Norte, municipal officials in Zamboanga del Norte, a town mayor in Batangas, register of deeds in Leyte and Tarlac.

“Most of the complaints against the above-mentioned local government officials had something to do with their intervention in public works projects in their respective jurisdiction,” the DOJ chief added.

Guevarra also said the Ombudsman is evaluating complaints against the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the United Nations Development Program free Wi-Fi project, but did not expound on the allegations.

Justice Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar for her part told reporters Sunday that the task force has endorsed a total of 20 documents to the Ombudsman, but noted that only ten were for appropriate action or investigation.

“Some are merely requests for update since complaints were already filed with the Ombudsman,” Aglipay-Villar added.

The TFAC has so far received 357 documents, but Aglipay-Villar said actual complaints are logged at 240 as more than a hundred are follow ups or duplicates.
